The Rogers Public Library, with the help of Sam's Club, brought the best selling author James Patterson to Northwest Arkansas. James Patterson has sold something like 180 million books worldwide. My sister Carol and I met up at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center where we had the breakfast buffet offered prior to hearing from Mr. Patterson. He shared some anecdotal stories, talked about his writing profession and answered questions from the audience. Afterward, he signed this lasted Alex Cross book, Alex Cross's Trial.

He shared a few facts that I found particularly interesting. He writes his stories on paper, not a computer. He has more than two dozen books in the process of completion at any given time. He writes every day. He didn't care for what the television writers did with the short lived series The Women's Murder Club which was created from his book series.

The night before Mr. Patterson led a writers workshop for youth in the area. He is very passionate about young readers and spoke his message clearly; it is our job to make books available to the children that interest them. Children will not read if they do not have a book they enjoy, not what we think they should enjoy. What a great lesson for us all to take into our homes.
